Volunteer Recognition Award is a non credit bearing award that recognises students' voluntary work in addition to their studies. The award is automatically included in the Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR)
There are three possible awards dependant on the students training and responsibilities:
Classic – reflects activity at operational level where the student is responsible for their own activity and may contribute as part of a team.
Leadership – reflects leadership activity or training of others. These roles reflect a developing involvement in volunteering and growing responsibilities.
Strategic – reflects strategic level activities where the student takes part in strategic decision making and planning on behalf of an organisation,
To gain the award, students must undertake an unpaid voluntary role outwith their studies, complete a written reflective exercise and provide an outline of their work and training which must be signed off by their volunteering supervisor.
Students are free to choose their volunteering role from within the university or Students' Union or with external organisations/ charities
